Vehicle Description

This 1970 Plymouth AAR ’Cuda is one of just 2,724 examples produced for a single model year, created to satisfy SCCA Trans-Am homologation requirements and establish Plymouth’s presence in one of America’s most competitive racing series. Finished in Rallye Red over a black interior, this AAR combines distinctive factory styling, documented history, and the high-revving character that made these cars legends among Mopar enthusiasts.

The exterior was originally finished in Rallye Red (FE5) and has been repainted under prior ownership. Signature AAR equipment remains in place, including the fiberglass hood with functional scoop, “chin spoiler” front air dam, ducktail rear spoiler, side-exit exhaust outlets, and bold longitudinal strobe stripes. Additional features include hood pins, fog lights, dual side mirrors, chrome bumpers, and iconic ’Cuda graphics that give the car its unmistakable road-racing appearance. Replacement front spoilers and headlights were installed after 2016, while minor imperfections in the chrome trim reflect the car’s authentic, driver-oriented character.

The car rides on Rallye 15-inch wheels wrapped in BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires measuring 225/60 up front and 245/60 at the rear, providing the aggressive staggered stance expected from a performance Mopar. Power-assisted front disc brakes and rear drum brakes handle stopping duties, while prior service work has included a brake system overhaul, power steering pump rebuild, and replacement of front torque boxes.

Inside, the cabin features front bucket seats and a rear bench retrimmed in black vinyl, creating a clean contrast against the Rallye Red exterior. Interior appointments include woodgrain trim, a center console, a pistol-grip shifter, black carpeting, a push-button AM/FM radio, and a cabin heater. Additional maintenance has included replacement of the clutch pedal bearings, brake pedal bushings, and under-dash wiring. Two small tears are noted in the headliner.

The Rallye instrument cluster places a 150-mph speedometer, tachometer, clock, and auxiliary gauges directly in the driver’s line of sight, reinforcing the car’s competition-inspired personality. The odometer shows approximately 64,000 miles, with around 300 miles added under current ownership.

Power comes from the legendary 340ci V8 equipped with the factory-style Six Barrel induction system consisting of three two-barrel carburetors. Originally rated at 290 horsepower, the engine delivers the free-revving performance and distinctive sound that helped define the AAR ’Cuda. Service work completed between 2014 and 2016 included rebuilding the carburetors and replacing the distributor, engine mounts, and exhaust manifold, while a recent oil change was performed in preparation for sale.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and a Sure-Grip limited-slip differential, providing the engaging driving experience enthusiasts seek. While the trim tag indicates the car was originally equipped with a three-speed automatic transmission, the current four-speed setup enhances both driver involvement and performance character. Additional drivetrain updates have included replacement of the transmission mount, U-joints, and clutch.

Accompanied by an owner’s manual and service records dating back to 2014, this 1970 Plymouth AAR ’Cuda represents one of Mopar’s most celebrated homologation specials. Combining Trans-Am heritage, unmistakable styling, and the unmistakable appeal of a four-speed Six Barrel V8, it offers the kind of driving experience and collector appeal that continue to make the AAR one of the most sought-after muscle cars of its generation.
